Contest of Drawings for Pupils
The UN Information Center in Moscow in cooperation with the Movement of Young Peacemakers announced the contest of drawings for children and youth on the occasion of the 60-th anniversary of the United Nations Organization created as a result of the victory over the fashism after the end of the 2-nd world war. The age limits for the contestants is from 7 to 17 years while the drawings are to be made on the paper 60x42 см size and sent to UNIC before April 15, 2005. The winners of the contest will be awarded with special presents and diplomas.

Security Council Welcomes Resumption of Talks between Israel and Palestinians
The Security Council welcomed last week's summit in Egypt and the resumption of direct talks between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. In a statement read out at an open meeting by Ambassador Joel W. Adechi of Benin, the Council President for February, the 15-member body underscored the understandings reached by the parties, "in particular that all Palestinians will stop all acts of violence against all Israelis everywhere and that Israel will cease all its military activities against all Palestinians everywhere," and called for the "full respect by the parties of their commitments in this regard." The statement said the Council "recognizes these understandings, along with other recent positive developments, as primary steps towards restoring confidence between the two parties and as a significant opportunity to enhance a new spirit of cooperation and to promote an atmosphere conducive to the establishment of peace and coexistence in the region."

Patricia Montandon's Delegation Visited Russia
The delegation of "Children as Peacemakers'" Fund which included representatives from the US, Canada and Japan completed its 11-days visit to Russia January 26. During the first half of the visit the delegation visited Moscow Kremlin as well as Young Peacemakers'clubs in a few districts of Moscow. Later on it flew to Nothern Ossetia to meet children of Beslan Secondary School # 1 attacked by terrorists September 1, 2004 and participated in the rally "No to Terrorism!" organized in the city of Beslan. The delegation headed by famous American peacemaker Patricia Montandon was invited to Russia by the Union of NGOs "Civil Society to Children of Russia" headed by Ella Pamfilova, Chairwoman of the Commission on Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights by the President of Russia. Visit of Patricia Montandon to Russia
The delegation of "Children as Peacemakers'" Fund which includes representatives from the US, Canada and Japan started its visit to Russia January 17 from the visiting Moscow Kremlin and Young Peacemakers'club of the High School # 1804. The delegation of the fund headed by famous American peacemaker Patricia Montandon was invited to Russia by the Union "Civil Society to Children of Russia" and plans to visit Beslan High School # 1, attacked by the terrorists in Nothern Ossetia, as well as to meet Ella Pamfilova, Head of the Commission on Civil Society and Human Rights by the President of Russia January 25 in Moscow.

The Youth Club has got the Сertificate of Peacemaking Efforts
The Club of Peace Friends of the Secondary School # 2 (the city of Kostomuksha) was awarded with the Certificate of Peacemaking Efforts by the Council of Veterans of the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations. The reason for this was the active role of the club in organization of the Decade of Voluntary Deeds in the republic of Karelia. The Council of Veterans of the Museum is planning to issue certificates for another 32 youth clubs and Secondary Schools participants of the Decade of Voluntary Deeds (from December 1 to December 10, 2004) organized in Russia on the occasion of the 60-th anniversary of the United Nations.

Letter to the Chairman of State Duma
Coordinating Council of the Movement of Young Peacemakers has discussed the results of the civilian action "Stop Violence of TV!" and sent the corresponding letter to Boris Gryzlov, Chairman of Russian Parliament. As a whole the young peacemakers have collected about 6 000 signatures in support of the civilian action during two weeks by the end of 2004 to prove the fact that the civil society is very much concerned to the intensive demonstration of violence scenes on TV channels in the Russian Federation.

Annan will Visit Indonesia to Spearhead Donor Drive for Tsunami Aid Effort
New York, Jan 2 2005 10:00PM United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said today he would attend a high-level international conference in Jakarta, Indonesia, later this week to launch an appeal for emergency funds for the massive relief effort the UN is helping to coordinate in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster. "This is the largest disaster we have had to deal with," Mr. Annan said in an interview on American Broadcasting Corporation's television programme "This Week." He said the UN was working closely with the governments of the affected countries, donor nations and a wide range of aid partners to mobilize the resources and the logistical requirements "to go in and be effective."

15 Children were Awarded with Badge "Young Peacemaker"
Children from the Eastern district of Moscow have given an oath to strengthen peace and were adopted by the Movement of Young Peacemakers as its members December 22. The ceremony took place at the Historical Museum located in Solnechnogorsk (65 km from the city of Moscow) where children were aсquainted with the exhibition of the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations named "Russian UN Museum" devoted to the 60-th anniversary of the United Nations. After the ceremony at the Historical Museum children have put flowers to the monument of defenders of the city of Solnechnogorsk on the occasion of the 63-rd anniversary of the Moscow Battle.

Kofi Annan and Colin Powell discussed elections in Iraq
With the registration of political entities in Iraq complete, Secretary-General Kofi Annan and United States Secretary of State Colin Powell met in Washington for further talks on preparations for next month's elections and United Nations assistance in the process. The UN currently has some 220 people in Baghdad serving with the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) - 157 Fijian guards providing security for UN premises and personnel and 64 international staff, up from a previous ceiling of 59. Another 70 UNAMI international staff are based in Amman, Jordan, and in Kuwait. Electoral staff from the Mission inside and outside Iraq are part of an integrated team of some 50 international electoral experts from the UN, European Union and other organizations operating under UN coordination.

Autograph of Vladimir Putin was presented to Museum of Peacekeeping Operations
Members of "Bogorodskoe" Youth Club of Peacemakers located in the Eastern administrative district of Moscow contributed into Museum funds the autograph of Vladimir Putin which was given to them December 7, 2004. Children have contacted Russian President Vladimir in Alabino during the historic game show "On the Main Line of the Battle" organized for veterans of World War 2 by Moscow government with the assistance of troops of Moscow military district in memory of the Battle near Moscow which took place 63 years ago in December 1941. The autograph was put on top of the envelope containing the invitation cards to Danila Terentyev, Rita Stroganova and Alexei Gornostaev to visit the show at Alabino training field in the suburbs of Moscow.
