Children have put Flowers by the Monument of Unknown Soldier in Moscow
Over 1 000 children from different districts of Moscow took part in the ceremony organized by Moscow Council of children NGOs on occasion of the 62-nd anniversary of the Moscow Battle December 5,2003. The participants were inspired by songs performed by chorus of WW-2 Veterans from the School of Peace # 32 and have put flowers by the Monument of Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall. The Council of veterans of the Museum have thanked for good performance Mrs.Lidia Kuznetsova (teacher of Music School # 32), Mr.Vladimir Sidorov (teacher of High School # 1411) and young peacemaker Alexander Korshunov (pupil of High School # 51) which have led the ceremony.

They were the First Soviet Peacekeepers
The editorial under the title "They were the First Soviet Peacekeepers" was published on the front page of the 6-th issue of the weekly "On the Way to Culture of Peace", November 27, 2003. The article was prepared on the basis of memoirs of the senior Soviet UN military observer Colonel Nikolai Belik who was the commander of the first group of 36 Russian officers to come to the Middle East by the end of the October War 1973. UN Peacekeepers of Russia will Mark the 30-th Anniversary Next Week
Russia and the world community will mark the 30-th anniversary of Russian participation in UN peacekeeping on the 25-th of November. In fact the first group of Russian peacekeepers arrived Cairo (Egypt) by the end of Arab-Israeli War in October 1973. But it was enlisted in UNTSO only four weeks later as well as 28 US military personnel who arrived in Egypt a week later. On this occasion the special session of the the National Organizing Committee will be held on the 25-th of November in the UN Information center in Moscow (Glazovsky pereulok, 4/16). Baptism of Fire for Ukrainian Battalion in Iraq
According to Artyem Shevchenko (1+1) the Ukrainian patrol consisting of 2 APCs was attacked recently in Iraq. The ambush was organized at night by unidentified attackers 2,5 km from the base camp of the 52-nd Ukrainian battalion stationed in As-Suwair. As the result of land mine explosions and 5-7 minute fire assault 7 Ukrainian officers and soldiers were wounded. Is it a peace operation or a military actions in Iraq now? Young Peacemakers and WW-2 Veterans marched together on the Red Square in Moscow
Over 700 children and youth and about 200 World War-2 veterans came November the 7th on the Red Square to march together in memory of the Military Parade in 1941 when the fashist troops were at the distance of a few kilometers from Moscow. The historic fact is that the Soviet troops participating in Military Parade (1941) after marching through the Red Square were moved directly to the frontline to defend the capital of the Soviet Union. To celebrate the 62-nd anniversary of the Parade (1941) the participants of the march 2003 were devided into the columns of 50 persons each to march through the Red Square as in 1941. The Movement of Young Peacemakers was represented by 100 children and youth who marched under the flags of Moscow and of the UN and saluted to members of Moscow government present at the ceremony.

Flag of UNMOP was exposed at the exhibition of Children Movement in Moscow
Flag of UN operation on Prevlaka peninsula contributed into Museum funds by peacekeeping veteran Vasily Somov was exposed at the exhibition of Children Movement opened October 31 at Frunzenskaya naberezsnaya, 30 in Moscow. The decision to include the flag into the exposition plan was taken by leaders of the Movement of Young Peacemakers on the assumption that the flag simbolizes the succession of the peacekeeping experience of Russian veterans by young peacemakers. The exhibition of Children Movement will be open for visitors till November 5, 2003 while the meetings with young peacemakers and their leaders will be organized during theese days from 12.00 to 14.00 hrs. The story of the UNMOP flag exposed at the exhibition was published October 30 on pages of the second issue of the weekly "On the Way to Culture of Peace".

"On the Way to Culture of Peace" weekly # 1 was edited October 23
One can not purchase this weekly in the news-stand or in the bookshop because it is distributed only among the subscribers - the children NGOs and 46 Schools of Peace, members of the project "Peace Education Net" launched in the beginning of 2002 by Moscow Institute of Open Education. The purpose of the weekly is the dissemination of the experience of peace education in Russia. The edition of 4-paged A4 formatted "On the Way to Culture of Peace # 1" was 100 copies.

The First issue of the Weekly "On the Way to Culture of Peace"
The first issue of the weekly "On the Way to Culture of Peace" is expected to appear by the end of October in Moscow. The idea to publish such an issue in Russian language was strongly supported by a few children NGO interested in study and dissemination of the experience of peace education in Russia. Only 100 paper copies of the weekly will be published in October for the distribution among the subscribers - children NGOs, teachers and students of Moscow high schools and institutions.

Russian Civpol meets Moscow Educators
Alexander Borisov, Lieutenant Colonel of Militia met October 9 students of the Peace Education Course, organized by Moscow Institute of Open Education at the Moscow House of Teachers (Pushechnaya Street, 4/2). The idea to have meeting of UN peacekeeping veteran with students of the course was well met by the teachers themselves and by the command of the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs where the veteran works as an inspector. During 1-hour long lecture the students learned a lot about the history of the conflict at Balcan peninsula as well as about life and service of Russian and international peacekeepers working in the mission area.

When the representatives of Moscow Pioneer Organization (children NGO in past very close to communists) stated that they are against Russian three color flag the young peacemakers proposed the compromise to raise instead of three color flag the flag of Moscow. The proposal was immediately accepted and for the whole 6 days which the children game "Model of UN Peacekeeping"continued there were two flags flying over the Moscovia Center. As a whole there were 5 different NGOs of youth participating in the camp (September 23-28) organized by Movement of Young Peacemakers and Schools of Peace with the support of Moscow government.
