The 3-rd edition of the book "In the Service of Peace"
Museum of Peacekeeping Operations have issued the 3-rd edition of the book "In the Service of Peace. 1973-2003" devoted to the 30th anniversary of Russian participation in UN peacekeeping operations (ISBN 5-94898-060-X, 180 pages). The book contains information about Russian professional peacekeepers - UN military observers, UN Staff officers, UN civilian police officers and the personnel of national contingents which served with UN 1992-2003. It is well illustrated and differs from the second edition by the part devoted to young peacemakers - children and youth awarded with the honorable badge of the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations 1998-2003.

Spring Peacemaking Action
The Movement of Young Peacemakers will organize its traditional Spring Peacemaking Action from April 15 to May 15, 2004. The action will be devoted to the following significant dates: Global Youth Service Day (April 16-18); Day of the Earth (April 22); Day of Labor and Solidarity (May 1); the International Press Freedom Day (May 3); Day of Victory over Fashism (May 9); the International Day of the Family (May 15). Russian Contest "UN Peacekeeper of the Year"
In 2005 the world community will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the UN. An event of great importance for the mankind which enjoy peace without world war for the decades due to utmost efforts of UN peacekeepers of different nationalities. Meanwhile over 1800 UN personnel died in the course of UN operations in different parts of the world. Assessing the importance of the incoming jubilee for the international peace and security the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations came out with the proposal to Russian National Committee created on occasion of the 60th anniversary of the UN to organize the First Russian Contest "UN Peacekeeper of the Year" in April 2004. Three Songs about Peace have got the Prize
About 150 representatives of Schools of Peace and children NGOs took part in the final session of the contest of songs about peace and peacemakers carried out March 4, 2004 at Moscow House of Teachers. As a result of the voting there were selected as winners the following three songs: a) Peacemaker! Save and Protect! b) Let Peace be! c) Peace to you, our Earth! For the details see the photo report.

Olympic Games of Young Peacemakers
Over 500 children and youth took part in the 8-th Festival of Russian Sports organized at the Secondary School # 271 in Moscow February 27 - 29, 2004. During the oppening ceremony the participants were addressed by Mr. Shirokov, member of Russian parliament (State Duma), by Zarafshan Yahyaev, school principal and by representatives of a few regions of the Russian Federation. The festival started with the first Olympic Games of young peacemakers who have been represented by 8 teams of sportsmen from 4 administrative districts of Moscow. Celebration of the Day of Defender of the Fatherland in Moscow
Over 200 young peacemakers took part in the events held in Moscow on the occasion of the Day of Defender of the Fatherland (February 23). In the course of celebrations children and youth have put flowers to the monument of Unknown soldier near the Kremlin Wall, met with veterans of World War-2, visited Sevastopol division in its location in Moscow. The Council of veterans wishes all readers of the "Voice of Peacemakers" good health and prosperity.

Final Session of Judges for the Contest of Songs about Peace and Peacemakers
March 1, 2004 is the deadline for the Contest of Songs about Peace and Peacemakers announced by the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations last year. As a whole there were already 15 contestants from 10 to 18 years old who have sent their works to the judges. Most of the songs were published on the Museum web-site (http://un-museum.ru/projects/music_contest). The final session of the judges and the singing songs by the composers will take place at the conference hall of the Moscow House of Teachers (Moscow, Pushechnaya Street, 4/2) from 16 to 18 hours March 4, 2004.

Terrorist Attack in Moscow. Will it Ruin Interethnic Cooperation in Russia?
Leaders of Movement of Young Peacemakers have strongly condemned the terrorist attack launched Friday morning February 5 in Moscow. What is the role of ethnic and confessional tolerance in history and in everyday life of modern society? How the intolerance effects peace and relations between individuals and countries? These are the points of interest and study of a teenager from South-East administrative district of Moscow. Children Corps of Peace and Tolerance
New project under the title "Teaching and Sports Game "Children Corps of Peace and Tolerance" was worked out by leaders of the Movement of Young Peacemakers in the course of development of the ideas formulated at the 3-rd Conference "Civic Society for Children of Russia". For the moment the organizers of the game discuss the plan of activities for 2004 to be able to start the game among Russian children NGOs in Spring this year. The editorial board of Voice of Peacemakers Bulletin will be grateful for comments and proposals on the project, published in the Voice of Peacemakers # 133 (Russian).

Two Volunteers have compiled the List of Russian Civpols awarded with the UN Medal
January 26, 2004 two former UNMIK civpols Yuri Bogomolov and Alexander Borisov have completed work on the List of Russian civpols awarded with the UN medal "In the Service of Peace". As a whole there are 379 names of Russian militia officers who have served with UN missions from 1992 to 2003. The work was done at the request of the Museum of Peacekeeping Operations which prepared for publishing the third edition of the memorial book "In the Service of Peace. 1973-2003". The third book Russian peacekeepers to come out in February 2004 is devoted to the 30th anniversary of Russian participation in UN peacekeeping.
